Student Development Assistant

The Student Development Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the TRIO Student Support Services Program at Pellissippi State Technical Community College. This position will assist TRIO participants in developing their academic skills, leadership potential, and career pathway. The successful candidate will provide direct TRIO SSS services to participants, assist with program workshops, cultural enrichment activities, and career awareness and exploration activities.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain regular contact with an assigned case load of TRIO SSS students, providing support in each of the 5 mandated U.S. Department of Education services.
- Provide guidance and advisement to TRIO SSS students in the areas of leadership development and career awareness & development.
- Assist Project staff with clerical duties as requested.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of TRIO SSS sponsored workshops.
- Prepare and submit documentation for monthly and annual reporting.
- Assist the TRIO Director with selection and intake of Program participants.
- Database and file management (electronic database and individual files).
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Leadership, Counseling, Communications or related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience in a higher education setting, preferably working with TRIO or related outreach programs.
- Familiarity with financial aid, scholarships, transfer programs, and academic advising.
- Microsoft Office proficiency and an understanding and sensitivity to diverse populations.
This position will require travel to other campuses and setting up display tables at campus and/or community events. The successful candidate will be exposed to germs and bacteria which may cause colds, flu, COVID-19, and other illnesses.
