Currently, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is seeking a part-time Oncology Nursing Specialist (RN) to support the medical oncology team in our newly established outpatient center. This role involves a full-time daylight schedule, working Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5:00 pm as a Treatment/Infusion Nurse, providing care for a diverse patient population within a medical oncology practice.

This position includes a $3,000 sign-on bonus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage actively in department-specific quality enhancement initiatives. Identify opportunities for improvement and collaborate with colleagues and management to enhance patient satisfaction and care quality. Utilize research and evidence-based practices to inform clinical care improvements.
  • Demonstrate accountability for professional growth that enhances both professional practice and patient care quality. Participate in unit-based governance and support transitions aimed at improving care quality and the practice environment.
  • Foster productive working relationships by exhibiting accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment to patients and colleagues. Understand cultural differences and promote healthy relationships within the team.
  • Apply adult learning principles in patient and family education, ensuring effective guidance throughout the care process. Support the development of new staff and students, fostering an environment of open dialogue and continuous improvement.
  • Utilize the nursing process within a Relationship-Based Care framework to establish a healing environment. Develop individualized care plans that address the holistic needs of patients, demonstrating critical thinking in identifying various patient care issues.

The ideal candidate must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the ages of the patients served, demonstrating an understanding of growth and development principles. Additionally, they should be able to assess and interpret data reflective of the patient's status to meet their specific care needs.

  • Minimum of 6 months of nursing experience required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including executives, managers, and patients.
  • Capacity to work effectively in a complex environment, managing multiple priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients is required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is also required. UPMC encourages national certification.
