Job Overview

As a Principal Wireless Protocol Software Engineer at SpaceX, you will be responsible for designing, coding, maintaining, testing and documenting the link-layer protocol for our Satellite Communications Network. Our team is actively developing the technologies to make human life on Mars possible, and we are seeking an expert in wireless communications to join us.

With over 10 years of experience in embedded C/C++ software development for communications protocols and 7+ years of work experience in L2, L3 protocol stack layers, you will collaborate with our MAC protocol design team, PHY and Network teams to seamlessly integrate the link-layer within the Network stack. Your expertise in systems integration and testing methodologies, hardware/software integration and debugging will enable you to troubleshoot and tune component hardware, software, networking and communications protocol problems.

To be successful in this role, you must have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field and be able to demonstrate the ability to work concurrently on multiple complex problems. You will also need to communicate complex concepts, problems and solutions clearly and effectively to all levels within the organization.

Estimated salary: $180,000 - $220,000 per year.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, code, maintain, test and document the link-layer protocol for the Satellite Communications Network.
  • Collaborate with the MAC protocol design team for protocol development.
  • Work with the PHY and Network teams to seamlessly integrate the link-layer within the Network stack.
  • Integrate the link-layer with simulation infrastructure.
  • Participate in architecture, design and code reviews and provide peer feedback.
