Job Summary

The Martha O'Bryan Center seeks a highly skilled and experienced Director of Finance to lead all financial operations for our two charter schools. This key role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing timely financial statements, and ensuring compliance with all financial regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a complete and accurate general ledger, including fixed assets, liabilities, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including comparisons to budget and supporting analyses.
  • Oversee and direct all budgeting, fund management, and activities related to audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, and corporate records.
  • Support the annual audit process and prepare all client-produced schedules to ensure a timely completion of annual audits and tax returns.
  • Establish and direct a strong system of internal control, creating procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and ensure adequate accounting controls.
  • Oversee all financial compliance reporting activities, communicating with state, federal, and local education authorities, and preparing, analyzing, and disseminating financial reports for both charter schools.
  • Collaborate with school staff to manage vendor relationships, including major recurring vendors for foodservice, E-Rate (technology), transportation, custodial, substitutes, clinical services, etc.
  • Communicate effectively with the leadership of each school and support their efforts to successfully lead their respective campuses.
  • Monitor the agency's financial position, issue periodic financial and operating reports, and direct appropriate activities to ensure fiscal stability.
  • Provide leadership and support to Martha O'Bryan School Advisory Committee, committee/Center treasurers, and board finance/investments committees, and agency management staff in areas related to budgeting, financial and asset management, fiscal policies, and procedures.
  • Work with each School Director, the VP of Schools, and the Martha O'Bryan Center CEO on short and long-term financial and strategic planning.
  • Contribute to the team effort by effectively participating in meetings, functions, and special activities of the organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required and 5 or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preference for a degree in accounting or finance, experience in charter schools or other growing organizations.
  • Public accounting or CPA experience is a plus, and demonstrated ability in maintaining a complete general ledger and performing financial analysis of financial statements is essential.
