Senior Accountant Job Description

The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting the accounting functions for the Archdiocese of Baltimore and its schools. This position will be responsible for preparing accounting records, monthly closing, and financial statements, as well as budgeting and account analysis and reconciliation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete a timely month-end close and reconciliation of accounts and systems, including preparation and posting of journal entries and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
  • Review accounts payable transactions, including bills and reconciliation of credit card statements, ensuring accuracy and proper classification in the general ledger.
  • Investigate and resolve accounts payable discrepancies when necessary.
  • Review accounts receivable and Electronic Funds Transactions, including accurate posting of transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with Diocesan policies and applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Post and reconcile deposits for other revenue with the deposit log.
  • Maintain an accurate and complete filing, record keeping, and general ledger system.
  • Create timely and accurate monthly financial, budget, and statistical reports to parish and school leadership.
  • Manage the preparation, presentation, approval, and ongoing monitoring of the operation and capital budget in collaboration with parish and school leadership.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or business management.
  • 5+ years of successful work experience in finance or accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office products.
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks, Ultipro, and Blackbaud Financial Edge desirable but not required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems with limited direction.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Critical thinking and analysis.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a team member.
  • Understanding and support of the operation and mission of the Catholic Church.
