The First-Year Writing Program at Barnard College seeks a part-time instructor to teach FYWB BC115- Identity and Theory in American Literature during the fall semester.
Job DescriptionThis instructor will be responsible for teaching FYWB BC115- Identity and Theory in American Literature. The course will explore a handful of contemporary literary texts written by marginalized authors through the lens of fundamental theoretical concepts in the Humanities.
Course Objectives- To analyze how identity animates American literary texts, both when explicitly named and dealt with by marginalized authors, or unnamed and neutralized by majority group authors who do not tackle questions of identity.
- To examine the multifaceted ways in which identity is visible and invisible in contemporary American literature.
- To engage fundamental scholarship on race, gender, disability, class, and culture in order to better understand how identity is used as a literary tool.
- Teach FYWB BC115- Identity and Theory in American Literature.
- Develop and implement course materials and assessments.
- Provide academic support and guidance to students.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong teaching and mentoring skills.
The salary for this position is $12,500.
