Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Employment Counsel to enhance our expanding Legal department. This position will deliver specialized legal guidance and support on various employment-related topics, encompassing both advisory and litigation aspects. The ideal candidate will possess a profound knowledge of employment law, exceptional analytical capabilities, and the proficiency to manage intricate legal challenges in a dynamic and innovative setting.

The starting salary for this position will range from $168,570 to $238,900, commensurate with experience. Full-time employees will also have access to a bonus structure, a competitive equity package, and comprehensive benefits. The actual salary may vary based on location, expertise, qualifications, and experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Employment Advisory:
    • Provide counsel to management and the Human Resources team on diverse employment matters, including recruitment, performance evaluations, disciplinary procedures, terminations, and adherence to employment laws at all levels.
    • Formulate and execute employment policies and practices to ensure legal compliance and alignment with industry best practices.
    • Offer insights on employee relations issues and conduct workplace investigations.
    • Facilitate training sessions on employment law and organizational policies.
  • Employment Litigation:
    • Oversee and manage litigation related to employment issues, such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage disputes.
    • Represent the organization in mediations, arbitrations, and court hearings.
    • Collaborate with external legal counsel as necessary to ensure effective case management.
    • Devise litigation strategies, prepare legal documents, and conduct necessary legal research.
  • Risk Management and Compliance:
    • Identify potential employment law risks and recommend proactive measures to mitigate these risks.
    • Stay informed on changes in employment legislation and advise on updates to organizational policies and practices.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with other legal team members and cross-departmental teams to support the organization’s business goals.
    • Effectively communicate with internal stakeholders, providing clear and actionable legal advice.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA accredited law institution.
  • Active membership in good standing with the state bar.
  • 7+ years of experience in employment law, emphasizing employment advisory and litigation, ideally in an in-house capacity.
  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Outstanding analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, with a knack for building effective relationships across the organization.
  • High ethical standards and professional integrity.
