Job Summary:

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist plays a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of patient medical problems. This position requires a strong understanding of radiopharmaceuticals, imaging procedures, and techniques to provide optimal patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform radionuclide procedures, including PET/CT and Spect/CT, under the authorization of a qualified physician.
2. Prepare radiopharmaceuticals for administration by injection, ingestion, and inhalation, and apply EKG patches and cables as needed.
3. Utilize sterile technique to ensure patient safety and optimal imaging results.
4. Optimize patient anatomy and function through proper positioning, isotope selection, and technical factor selection.
5. Perform venipuncture and adhere to all state and federal regulatory requirements for radiation control and safety procedures.
6. Assist Radiologists in the therapeutic use of radioisotopes under prescribed safety conditions.
7. Competently operate all nuclear medicine equipment and support systems, including HIS, RIS, scheduling systems, and PACS, to ensure accurate and high-quality imaging results.
8. Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document patient care and procedures in accordance with established nuclear medicine standards and guidelines.
9. Maintain accurate records of isotopes used and complete quality control on scanning equipment to ensure a safe working environment.
10. Utilize department computer systems, files, and PACS to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
11. Properly care for and image patients of all ages, maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to hospital policies and procedures.
12. Coordinate exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care, communicating effectively with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to ensure quality patient care.

Education and Experience:
Graduate from a nuclear medicine program or equivalency required. Current certification or certification within three (3) months of hire by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification also required.
