Position Overview

The role involves overseeing a designated program or activity focused on recreation, health, or fitness. Responsibilities include monitoring activities and ensuring that participants receive accurate information regarding procedures, techniques, safety protocols, risk management, sport-specific regulations, and institutional policies. The position may also involve facilitating the recruitment, training, supervision, and assessment of student staff, which could encompass sports supervisors, officials, and athletic trainers. Additionally, the role may assist in the acquisition, maintenance, and proper functioning of facilities, equipment, and materials necessary for recreational programs, club sports, and intramural activities. Individual or group instruction may also be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of Intramural and Informal Recreation, including the Adaptive program, and oversee the Climbing Wall and Inclusive Sports for students.
  • Coordinate facility scheduling for various venues, ensuring collaboration with the athletic department for additional field usage.
  • Continuously evaluate and adjust program structures to meet current needs.
  • Maintain statistical reports on participation, travel, injuries, equipment, and other relevant data on a semester and annual basis.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of court supervisors, officials, and volunteers.
  • Administer all payroll procedures for recreation employees.
  • Manage program equipment and ensure its maintenance.
  • Adhere to all policies regarding the use of university procurement cards.
  • Monitor financial accounts related to recreation budgets.
  • Maintain communication with participants and staff via smartphone for operational efficiency.
  • Be available to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience Required

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or a combination of education and experience totaling four or more years is required.

A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are necessary for this position.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

Experience in a sports or recreation setting is preferred. Familiarity with IM Leagues software or similar recreational management systems is advantageous.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills are essential. Excellent organizational abilities with a capacity to adapt to changing customer needs are required. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and engage with diverse cultures and organizations is crucial. A working knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles is necessary, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Availability to work evenings and weekends is required.
