Position Overview

The Sleep Study Specialist is responsible for conducting both fundamental and advanced diagnostic sleep evaluations while overseeing the activities of junior staff members. This role involves preparing and calibrating patient equipment for assessments, interviewing patients to identify sleep-related disorders, and explaining pre- and post-evaluation procedures. The specialist is tasked with executing and documenting tests in accordance with laboratory protocols, monitoring patients throughout the evaluation process, and intervening as needed to address patient concerns or technical issues.

Additionally, the specialist assists in the analysis of sleep studies and the generation of comprehensive reports. Maintenance of testing equipment is crucial, including calibration, repairs, and reporting any necessary replacements. It is essential to uphold credentials as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist through the BRPT or ABSM, or as a Registered Respiratory Therapist through the NRCA or NBRC, with a preference for RRT certification.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain Basic Life Support certification through the AHA; additional advanced life support certifications may be required based on departmental specialty.
  • Hold certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or equivalent, with a preference for completion of an accredited educational program focused on polysomnography.
  • Possess a High School Diploma/GED; an Associate degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrate 1-3 years of relevant experience in the field.
