Job Summary:

As a key member of our healthcare team, the Sterile Processing Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety. This position is responsible for processing and sterilizing surgical and hospital instruments and equipment, as well as assembling surgical instrument sets and trays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Decontaminate and process instruments, including compiling instrument sets, counting instruments, and recording counts.
  • Sterilize instruments, trays, basins, etc. with the appropriate exposure/dry times.
  • Prepare instruments for immediate use sterilization when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment in the department by daily wiping of counters, sinks, exterior surface of autoclaves, and high disinfection equipment.
  • Clean the autoclave chambers on a weekly basis.
  • Assist Operating Room Housekeeping with room turnover, terminal cleaning of Operating Room suites, and daily duties, if necessary.
  • Assist with picking supplies/instruments for upcoming cases.
  • Perform daily diagnostic testing on sterilizing equipment, including test packs, biological indicators, and diagnostic cycle for Endoscope Processors.
  • Evaluate instruments for function and safety when reprocessing.
  • Provide reprocessing services for ancillary department instruments, including Emergency Room, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Radiology.
  • Identify and evaluate loaner instruments prior to processing.
  • Record loaner information in a log for tracking.
  • Maintain Biological Incubator and log; evaluate for biological test results.
  • Provide technical services and assist in operating room, recovery, outpatient endoscopy, and central sterile as assigned and directed.
  • Work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and report to the perioperative services manager.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
