Job Summary:

As a Sterile Processing Technician with Adventist Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by processing and sterilizing surgical and hospital instruments and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Decontaminate and process instruments, including compiling instrument sets, counting instruments, and recording counts.
  • Sterilize instruments, trays, basins, etc. with the appropriate exposure/dry times.
  • Prepare instruments for "immediate use" sterilization when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment in the department by daily wiping of counters, sinks, exterior surface of autoclaves, and high disinfection equipment.
  • Clean the autoclave chambers on a weekly basis.
  • Assist Operating Room Housekeeping with room turn over, terminal cleaning of Operating Room suites, and daily duties, if necessary.
  • Assist with picking supplies/instruments for upcoming cases.
  • Perform daily diagnostic testing on sterilizing equipment, including test packs, biological indicators, and diagnostic cycle for Endoscope Processors.
  • Evaluate instruments for function and safety when reprocessing.
  • Provide reprocessing services for ancillary department instruments, including Emergency Room, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Radiology.
  • Identify and evaluate loaner instruments prior to processing.
  • Record loaner information in a log for tracking.
  • Maintain Biological Incubator and log; evaluate for biological test results.
  • Provide technical services and assist in operating room, recovery, outpatient endoscopy, and central sterile as assigned and directed.
  • Work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and report to the perioperative services manager.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
  • Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Sterile Processing Technician certification: Required
  • Certified Board Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST): Required
