Position Overview

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is seeking qualified individuals for the role of temporary Field Inspectors within the Plant Industries division. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and health of agricultural practices.

Key Responsibilities

Field Inspectors are tasked with:

  • Conducting thorough examinations of agricultural fields to identify signs of plant diseases and pest infestations.
  • Utilizing established policies and systematic methodologies to carry out inspections effectively.
  • Collecting, documenting, and securely storing samples while adhering to sanitation protocols.
  • Maintaining accurate records of inspection locations, mileage, samples collected, and time spent on inspections.
  • Traveling to various field locations, which may involve working independently or as part of a team.

Work Environment

This position involves outdoor work in diverse weather conditions and requires the ability to traverse uneven and rough terrains. Candidates should be prepared for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and extended hours as needed.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Ability to read and interpret road maps.
  • Capability to hike or walk for extended periods over challenging terrain.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
  • Possession of reliable transportation for travel between job sites.
  • Age requirement: Must be 16 years or older.

Desirable Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications may enhance your application:

  • Experience in biology, ecology, or field inspection.
  • Familiarity with plant pathology.
