Islamic Chaplain

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Islamic Chaplain to join our team at Shelby County. As a key member of our religious services team, you will provide spiritual guidance and support to inmates, while upholding the constitutional rights of prisoners regarding religious services and activities.

• Provide spiritual development opportunities for inmates, including guidance and instruction on Islamic doctrine.
• Conduct regular religious services and provide religious materials to inmates.
• Ensure compliance with institutional rules and regulations, as well as sound theological practices.
• Serve as a liaison between the religious community and the division, monitoring all religious services conducted by volunteers.
• Provide training for volunteers and staff, as needed.
• Minister to the inmate population as the primary congregation served.
• Provide stress debriefing to inmates and staff.
• Facilitate family and inmate communication.
• Submit monthly reports of activities conducted.
• Represent the Division at assigned special functions in-house and in the community.
• Maintain computerized records of all inmate contacts.

• Two (2) years of ministerial experience in the Islamic religion, with certification by a recognized ecclesiastical body.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Islamic religious studies, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Ability to work shift, evening, and on weekends as required.
• Pass NCIC background check and drug test.
• Ensure compliance with the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA).
