Islamic Chaplain

We are seeking a qualified Islamic Chaplain to provide spiritual guidance and support to inmates at Shelby County. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading Islamic worship services, delivering khutbah, and providing counseling and guidance to individuals and groups.

• Provide spiritual development and guidance to inmates
• Lead Islamic worship services and deliver khutbah
• Conduct regular meetings with inmates and provide counseling and guidance
• Ensure the constitutional rights of prisoners are upheld regarding religious services and activities
• Represent the Division at assigned special functions in-house and in the community
• Perform related responsibilities as required or directed

• Two (2) years of ministerial experience in the Islamic religion
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Islamic religious studies
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Proof of education, training, and/or experience is required

• Knowledge of the Qur'an
• Demonstrated experience in teaching in a diverse learning environment
• Thorough knowledge of religious activities
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and clearly communicate information verbally and in writing
• Ability to operate basic office and communications equipment

The successful candidate must be able to function in a prison environment and work shift, evening, and on weekends as required. A background check and drug test will be required.
