Key Responsibilities of a PMC Respiratory Therapist:

The Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in assisting physicians with pulmonary function testing and providing support to medical staff during clinical operations. A thorough understanding of pulmonary testing and the complexities associated with pulmonary patients is essential. Additionally, this role involves the management and upkeep of all pulmonary equipment.

A Typical Day for a PMC Respiratory Therapist May Include:

  • Supporting the physician during pulmonary stress testing.
  • Conducting pulmonary function tests in the pulmonary lab, including bronchial provocation assessments.
  • Overseeing the necessary equipment for all pulmonary evaluations and managing the procurement of required supplies.
  • Collaborating with Pulmonary RNs to ensure the readiness of emergency equipment, supplies, and clinic personnel for urgent situations.
  • Administering arterial blood gas tests and conducting six-minute walk tests with oxygen set-ups, titrations, and prescriptions.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:

Required Education and Certifications: An Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy is mandatory. ACLS certification is required. An active license/registration in accordance with North Carolina's standards for Respiratory Therapists is essential.

Preferred Experience: A minimum of six months of experience in a clinical or hospital setting focused on Respiratory Therapy is preferred.
