Certified Surgical Technologist

About Us:

Southern New Hampshire Medical Center features a comprehensive surgical suite with nine operating rooms, 25 pre-operative and post-anesthesia care unit bays, and a state-of-the-art sterile processing department. We offer flexible scheduling options, including 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts. Our operating room is supported by a dedicated on-call team during evenings, ensuring minimal disruption during off-hours. We provide a wide range of surgical services, including elective and emergency procedures across various specialties such as neurology, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, bariatrics, colorectal, vascular, ENT, general surgery, breast surgery, and plastic surgery. Our surgical services are continuously advancing, incorporating the latest technologies to enhance patient outcomes.

Role Responsibilities:

As a vital member of the Surgical Services team, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for identifying and preparing sterile instruments and equipment for surgical operations. This position involves assisting the surgical team with verification processes, intra-operative tasks, and post-operative protocols. In emergency situations, the Surgical Technologist must respond effectively and efficiently. This role operates under the guidance of the Circulator and is accountable to the RN Unit Director.

Key Duties Include:

  • Preparing and ensuring the sterility of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Supporting the surgical team with verification and procedural processes.
  • Assisting with intra-operative tasks and ensuring proper closure procedures.
  • Reviewing surgical bookings and aligning procedures with preference cards.
  • Utilizing surgical preference cards accurately for instrument selection.
  • Inspecting instruments for sterility, safety, and functionality.
  • Maintaining a sterile environment throughout the surgical process.

Candidate Profile:

  • Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program is required.
  • Certification as a Tech in Surgery (TS-C) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is mandatory.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is essential.
  • New Hampshire Medical Technologist registration is required unless another valid NH state license is held.
  • Ability to complete specific competencies within designated timeframes:
    • Basic Life Support within 30 days.
    • Preference card usage, instrument preparation, maintenance of sterile field, surgical briefings, safe instrument handling, surgical counts, and instrument inventory and decontamination within 90 days.
