The Auto Claims Field Evaluator will engage in specialized technical assessments to interpret vehicle damage, formulate repair estimates, identify unrelated prior damage, and determine total loss scenarios.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess damaged vehicles to evaluate the extent of structural, body, mechanical, electrical, or interior impairments.
  • Calculate labor costs, determine parts sourcing (OEM, Aftermarket, LKQ), and assess the feasibility of repair versus replacement using automotive repair knowledge.
  • Review photographic evidence and generate agreed price appraisals for all damaged assets, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Evaluate the practicality of repairs and consider potential contract repairs versus declaring a vehicle a total loss.
  • Identify unrelated prior damage based on the vehicle's physical characteristics, damage areas, and damage age, completing prior damage estimates as necessary and reporting inconsistencies observed during inspections.
  • Analyze cost-related expenses in relation to owner maintenance considerations (e.g., betterment, depreciation).
  • Contact owners of non-drivable, damaged vehicles promptly to arrange inspections within specified timeframes.
  • Submit completed appraisals using estimating software.
  • Maintain a directory of specialty repair shops and parts suppliers.
  • Authorize repairs as per current handling guidelines.
  • Facilitate the movement of salvage vehicles with owner consent to designated disposal locations.
  • Manage Drive-in inspections as assigned.
  • Ensure correction frequency on estimates remains at 5% or lower.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an outside appraiser or in a related field.
  • Proficient in generating agreed price appraisals across all business lines.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to utilize a computerized estimating system.

Preferred:

  • College degree, technical training, or substantial relevant work experience.
  • Familiarity with online claims systems.
  • Commitment to ongoing insurance education.
