Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Plumber to join our team at University of Utah Health. As a Plumber, you will be responsible for performing a variety of plumbing-related tasks, including installations, alterations, repairs, and maintenance of plumbing systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform plumbing installations, alterations, repairs, and maintenance using journeyman-level plumbing skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain water, sewer, and gas lines, including primary and secondary systems and related equipment.
  • Identify and resolve plumbing problems by repairing or replacing pipes, fittings, valves, plugged drains, faucets, toilet repairs, etc.
  • Determine the proper materials to be used for the particular assignment at hand.
  • Remodel old plumbing systems and construct new systems according to plan.
  • Install rough-in and finish work for new construction, including main sewers, manholes, storm drains, acid waste, compressed air, vacuum, natural gas, fire hydrants, and water distribution trunk lines.
  • Hook up individual components, such as sinks, drains, taps, and related equipment.
  • Install, repair, and test RP backflow prevention valves and vacuum breakers on equipment and double-check valves on all potable water connections as required by the IPC code and Utah rules and regulations.
  • Perform assigned preventive maintenance checks on valves, pumps, water heaters, dilution tanks, and other operating equipment.
  • Maintain swimming pools, whirlpools, saunas, and related equipment and provide accurate water treatment care.
  • May install, maintain, and repair medical gas systems, such as oxygen, breathing air, patient vacuum, waste anesthetic vacuum, etc.
  • May install, maintain, and repair steam distribution systems used for humidification and sterilization.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills.
  • Ability to maintain the appropriate certifications.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, select materials, and determine the most effective type of construction while ensuring that the work meets Utah codes and regulations.
Qualifications
  • Qualifications Required:
    • Licensed as a journeyman plumber in the State of Utah.
    • Current license to practice as a Master Plumber in the State of Utah.
  • Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Backflow Tester, Gas System Operator, and Medical Gases installer certification by a regulatory agency.
  • Licensed Water Purveyor skills.
  • CPO Certified Pool & Spa Operator skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position involves very physical work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects.

The position may involve moving heavy equipment and/or supplies.

This position involves a variety of physical conditions, such as being exposed to extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, loud noises, and other unusual elements.
