Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at the Exceptional Childrens Foundation. As a key member of our educational staff, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality instruction and support to students with varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities.

Salary Information

The estimated salary for this position is $60,000-$80,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This figure may vary based on location and other factors.

Responsibilities
  • Classroom Management: Manage the educational program for each student in assigned classroom, ensuring progress on all IEP goals and district and State requirements. Establish individual student goals and objectives and coordinate these with other services being provided to the student.
  • Teaching and Learning: Develop and implement detailed daily lesson plans that contain daily objectives, materials, methods, and activities. Assess individual students in all curriculum areas relevant to the IEP twice a year and document in the progress reports.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Maintain a positive learning environment that fosters students' personal responsibility and participation in planning as appropriate. Develop and maintain relationships with parents, school administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree and a current California State Special Education Credential or other special education credential recognized by the California Teaching Commission. Two years teaching experience in special education classroom preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage time and work effectively to meet deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to follow directions and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Certifications and Training: Behavior Management and Confidentiality Training required. Knowledge of Welligent and MS office helpful. Obtain and maintain Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NCI), First Aid, and CPR certification.
Work Environment

This is a school environment for students (K–12th grade) who have varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities. Work will be performed in a classroom, outdoors, and other locations for field trips and special events. Employee may encounter students who are in crisis, exhibiting emotional/psychological distress or behaving in an aggressive manner.
