Since 1966, SMCOE has utilized the Merit System to select, promote, and retain classified employees fairly and without prejudice. The Personnel Commission oversees this system, ensuring equal opportunities for all.
Job SummaryThis role supports special education students in classrooms or other learning environments under the direction of an assigned supervisor. Responsibilities include assisting certificated teachers, monitoring student behavior, and reporting progress. Successful candidates will possess excellent communication skills, patience, and a genuine interest in supporting students' academic and personal growth.
Essential Duties- Assist certificated teachers in caring for and reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of special education students
- Monitor and oversee student drills, practices, and assignments in various subjects
- Confer with the teacher concerning lesson plans and materials
- Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework, and projects
- Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to established policies and procedures
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working with children with special education needs in an organized setting. A valid First Aid and CPR Certificate, Class C California Driver's License, and vehicle insurance are also required.
