Position Overview

The Utility Ground Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the operational team by executing tasks from the ground level, which includes the removal of vegetation and debris as instructed. A valid CDL is a prerequisite for this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to and promote safety protocols and regulations at all times.
  • Maintain a tidy work environment by removing unnecessary materials.
  • Utilize various tools such as handsaws, pole saws, and gas-powered chain saws to manage undergrowth and clear pathways.
  • Assist in loading and unloading vehicles with logs, brush, and other materials; operate brush chippers as necessary.
  • Employ hand lines for the safe lowering of limbs and equipment.
  • Conduct thorough clean-up of work sites upon completion of tasks.
  • Transport, prepare, and organize tools and materials at the job site.
  • Set up and dismantle traffic signage as required.
  • Direct traffic to ensure the safety of team members and the public.
  • Operate trucks or other machinery as assigned.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment; ensure all tools are kept in good condition and report any major repair needs to the supervisor.
  • Ensure the safety of colleagues and the public by enforcing safe work practices and maintaining a clean work area.
  • Assist with emergency response efforts as needed.

SUPERVISORY ROLE

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

EXPERIENCE PREFERENCES

Experience in sectors such as electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical fields, or military service is advantageous.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

A high school diploma or equivalent education is preferred.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Physical capability to handle heavy materials and operate tools in challenging terrains.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Effective communication skills to receive instructions from a distance.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain first-aid and CPR certifications.
  • Compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License for driving roles.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions.
  • Capacity to maintain balance on uneven surfaces.
  • Strong endurance to fulfill job duties throughout a standard workday.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining necessary tools and equipment.
  • Flexibility to travel for emergency restoration work when required.
