Mission Statement:
Our program is dedicated to achieving three key objectives:
- Equipping motivated middle school students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in high school and pursue higher education.
- Offering intensive summer teaching internships for high school and college students passionate about education, while also creating meaningful volunteer opportunities throughout the academic year.
- Transforming lives through the collaborative efforts of the Breakthrough Summerbridge community and their families.
Role of the Instructional Coach:
Instructional Coaches (ICs) are seasoned educators who provide specialized support and mentorship to our Teaching Fellows (TFs). They play a crucial role in maintaining the academic integrity of the program by guiding TFs in lesson planning and instructional delivery.
Each IC is responsible for supervising a pair of Teaching Fellows in a specific subject area and grade level. They engage in professional development activities, observe classroom instruction, evaluate lesson plans, and provide ongoing feedback to ensure the highest quality of education for our students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in pre-summer training and curriculum planning.
- Lead workshops during orientation to prepare TFs for their teaching roles.
- Offer continuous support and constructive feedback to TFs throughout the summer program.
- Conduct regular classroom observations and facilitate professional development sessions.
- Collaborate with the instructional team to assess the needs of TFs and enhance their teaching practices.
- Engage actively in the Breakthrough Summerbridge community and contribute to a positive learning environment.
Compensation:
Instructional Coaches receive a competitive stipend based on their experience and role within the program.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree is preferred.
- A proven track record of successful teaching experience, ideally in grades 6-12.
- Strong subject matter expertise and familiarity with educational resources.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience in curriculum development and implementation.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
