Tobacco Cessation Specialist

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking a Tobacco Cessation Specialist to join our team. As a Tobacco Cessation Specialist, you will work with individuals experiencing homelessness to help them quit tobacco use. You will use a process-oriented coaching approach to motivate and engage clients to set and achieve their goals through weekly-to-monthly telehealth sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with clients to define a vision for tobacco cessation and identify specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals.
  • Use a process-oriented coaching approach to empower clients to take steps to reinforce and maintain their vision.
  • Address roadblocks to behavior change by eliciting information on triggers and strategies to address those roadblocks.
  • Participate in skills-based training through weekly learning collaboratives, structured tobacco treatment specialists training, and coaching training with the study team.
  • Serve as a navigator to facilitate interactions between clients and pharmacists and their primary care providers (PCPs) or local health centers.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience and advocacy working with people experiencing homelessness, individuals with mental health and substance use disorders, and with people using tobacco.
  • Basic knowledge of the health promotion and education field.
  • Skills associated with the delivery of health promotion and education programs.
  • Effective interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
