Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Clerk I-Child Nutrition to join our team at Sheldon Independent School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of clerical accounting duties in support of child nutrition operations and activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accrual accounting for child nutrition department books and payroll
  • Prepare correspondence concerning food service activities as requested
  • Verify and process various forms and applications
  • Establish filing systems and maintain employee attendance records
  • Accounting duties including accounts payable, accounts receivables, cash counting, deposits, inventory, budgets, purchasing/activities, and reconciliations for the department
  • Compile and assure accuracy of meal count data and prepare related reports by category and site
  • Monitor, audit, and maintain food service accounts
  • Prepare and maintain various financial and statistical records, files, and reports
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prefer Certified by TASN Level 1
  • Proficient skills in keyboarding, word processing, and file maintenance
  • The laws, rules, and regulations related to all Child Nutrition Programs
  • Methods, practices, principles, and terminology used in accounting, auditing, and financial analysis
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use personal computers and software to develop spreadsheets and databases and do word processing
  • Basic math skills
  • Bilingual with the ability to speak, write, and listen effectively
  • Ability to take initiative, use good judgment, tact, patience, and confidentiality
Working Conditions

Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of a computer. Ability to see for reading instructions, labels, and other printed matter and the safe operation of equipment. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels in person and/or on the telephone. Ability to communicate in English, so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person and/or on the telephone. Ability to operate a computer, point of sale system, fax, scanner, printer, calculator, telephone, and other office equipment with dexterity and safely and efficiently. Ability to routinely lift/carry office supplies and printed materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Physical mobility is sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, between school sites) for sustained periods on hard flooring, stairs, and ramps, and to respond to emergencies. Physical agility sufficient to sit, stand, kneel, walk, push/pull, squat, twist, bend, stoop, and reach in all directions including overhead.
