Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Space Systems Assembly, Integration, and Testing

SPACE SYSTEMS OVERVIEW

The Space Systems division at Rocket Lab is accountable for every satellite and satellite component produced, ranging from complete satellites intended for lunar and Martian missions to individual components and subsystems such as solar panels, flight software, reaction wheels, star trackers, separation systems, radios, and more.

ROLE OF SENIOR MANUFACTURING ENGINEER: ASSEMBLY, INTEGRATION, AND TEST

Operating from Rocket Lab's headquarters, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer for Space Systems Assembly, Integration, and Testing will be instrumental in advancing technology and platform development for high-performance missions in Defense and Intelligence Space. This role involves supporting the Director of Manufacturing Engineering and Production, delivering essential insights for internal leadership, board members, and stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in design evaluations, serving as a specialist in design for manufacturing, design for testing, productivity, supplier capability assessments, and quality assurance.
  • Supervise the introduction and application of new products and revisions related to Space Systems and Electron/Neutron avionics.
  • Design, develop, and implement testing equipment and operations for spacecraft avionics and assemblies.
  • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to address manufacturing engineering quality responsibilities and lead problem resolution when necessary.
  • Identify, plan, and execute upgrades to capital equipment, machinery, and layouts to meet production volume requirements, including the preparation of business cases.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in your area utilizing lean methodologies and tools such as 5S.
  • Implement automation where suitable and ensure equipment data integrates directly with MRP and quality systems.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers and technicians on a daily basis.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in satellite design, development, manufacturing, and testing environments.
  • Proficient understanding of electromechanical assembly, tooling, testing, and quality assurance techniques.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace or electrical engineering.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, or Matlab.
  • Strong knowledge of EEE components, PCBs, and PCBAs.
  • Familiarity with sensors, signal conditioning, and data acquisition electronics.
  • Experience with spacecraft harness design and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical testing equipment.
  • Experience in clean room environments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboards and controls, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be physically capable of commuting to various buildings.
  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, and moderate noise levels.

The expected salary range for this position is provided in accordance with applicable regulations. Final compensation will be determined based on individual qualifications and experience.

Base salary is one component of Rocket Lab's overall compensation package for this role.
