Mammography Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mammography Technologist to join our team at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems. As a key member of our radiology department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Perform mammography procedures, including screening and diagnostic exams, in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.
- Determine radiographic technique exposure factors to ensure optimal image quality.
- Perform radiography of pathologic breast specimens and provide or assist with physical breast inspection or palpation.
- Assist licensed independent practitioners with breast interventional radiographic procedures and apply principles of patient safety during all aspects of radiographic procedures.
- Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic imaging orders in the patient's medical record and corroborate patient's clinical history with the ordered procedure.
- Verify informed consent and assume responsibility for patient needs before, during, and after procedures.
- Prepare patients for procedures, apply principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others, and perform venipuncture per procedural protocol based on imaging order from a licensed independent practitioner.
- Evaluate images for technical quality, ensure proper identification is recorded, and identify and escalate emergency situations and manage until appropriate licensed independent practitioner, EMS, MERT, RRT, or Code Team arrives to assume control.
- Registry by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT-R) and ARRT-M certification.
- Current Certification by ARRT in Radiography and Mammography (ARRT-M).
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification.
- One (1) year of previous work experience as a Breast Imaging Technologist.
- One to three (1-3) years of previous work experience as a Breast Imaging Technologist.
- Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment.
- Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology that is recognized by the ARRT.
- Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology or closely related field from an accredited program.
The mammography technologist utilizes independent professional judgment to obtain the resultant diagnostic information when possible and seeks directive from a qualified interpreting physician or lawful institutional policies (or standards of care) to continue to discontinue the exam otherwise.
Mammography Technologists independently perform screening and diagnostic mammography exams based on lawful institutional policies and/or practice standards and/or follows the directive of the interpreting physician to assist in the completion of the exam.
Additional Requirements- Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific manager or supervisor.
- Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing needs of the health system.
- Weekend and other after hours coverage may be required based on workload demand and staffing needs of the health system.
