Job Summary

At SSM Health, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Paramedic to join our team. As a Paramedic, you will provide advanced life support treatment, care, and evaluation of patients on scene. You will work collaboratively with physicians and registered nurses to identify, intervene, and stabilize patients during intrafacility and interfacility transport.

Responsibilities and Requirements
  • Provides basic and advanced life support treatment, care, and evaluation of patients on scene.
  • Initiates and implements interventions based on team protocols.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition and treatment, as appropriate.
  • Provides population-specific education to patients and families about their illness and therapeutic interventions.
  • Inspects, maintains, and cares for equipment to ensure safety of the team, patients, and public.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • May interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information on patients' charts.
  • May prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  • May perform basic clerical duties, including answering the phone, maintaining records, scheduling patients, and filing.
  • May assist with treatments ordered by providers as supervised by providers or registered nurses.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required. No experience required.

Physical Requirements

Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication. Constant standing and walking. Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs. Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry. Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors. Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors. Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc. Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs. Occasional lifting/moving of patients. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. Occasional driving. Rare crawling and running.

Required Professional License and/or Certifications

State of Work Location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced Life Support (ALS) - American Heart Association (AHA). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (AHA). Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT) - Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services. Paramedic - Oklahoma State Department of Health. Paramedic - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). Driving Record - Motor Vehicle Report (MVR). Paramedic - Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
