Key Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of the Cleaning Support Team to provide a consistently high standard of cleaning.
  • Ensure all areas of the museum buildings are cleaned to an agreed standard following museum guidelines.
  • Operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning materials as trained and directed.
  • Ensure Health and Safety procedures are followed to ensure the safety of visitors and staff.
  • Undertake training and attendance on courses and seminars to develop relevant skills.
  • Attend regular team meetings and contribute to the development of the team.
  • Sanitize high-touch areas throughout the day, including door handles, stair rails, light switches, and communal desks.
  • Follow agreed task sheets for each area and type of cleaning.
  • Provide emergency response to toilets and other areas as required.
  • Support events and ensure areas are cleaned prior to start times.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the line manager.
  • Act in a professional manner and uphold the Horniman Code of Conduct.
  • Follow and promote safe systems of work and observe health and safety regulations.

Requirements:

  • Experience of cleaning all types of surfaces in public and private areas.
  • Knowledge of health and safety guidelines, including manual handling, COSHH, and electrical safety.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to equality and diversity, particularly in relation to enabling access to museum collections.
  • Excellent awareness of high standards of cleanliness and hygiene required in a busy visitor attraction.
  • Ability to work efficiently without close supervision and operate machinery as required.
  • Good timekeeping and reliability, with flexibility in tasks and hours.
