Senior Leasing Accounting Consultant

The role involves overseeing the accounting principles related to leasing agreements, loans, and associated tax considerations, including intricate equity investments and partnership frameworks. The individual will finalize technical accounting documentation for policy adherence and auditor reviews. They will also analyze and clarify discrepancies between economic outcomes and accounting records in collaboration with the originations team. This position serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for leasing and renewable energy transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Record and structure transactions for both accounting and tax reporting purposes.
- Collaborate closely with Originations teams to determine the accounting treatment for new transactions.
- Participate in the drafting process and engage in discussions regarding issues with Accounting Policy and auditors.
- Inform the department about updates in standards and analyze their implications on transaction accounting and client considerations.
Required Qualifications:
- 10-15 years of accounting experience, with a preference for at least 5 years in leasing or asset finance.
- Background in a financial institution's accounting policy division, a National Office of a US firm, or with FASB or SEC expertise in leasing, equity, and consolidation accounting or tax matters.
- Ability to collaborate with a drafting team and support accounting positions effectively.
- Extensive experience in technical accounting areas such as leasing, consolidation, revenue recognition, derivatives, and equity investments.
- Familiarity with SEC regulations, external financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, including BASEL II and III and IT systems implementation.
- Strong grasp of advanced tax obligations, including sales, property, and income taxes, as well as deferred tax calculations.
- Experience with SOX documentation, implementation, and internal control processes.
- Capable of operating independently in a high-pressure environment.
- Exceptional critical thinking, business writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive and constructive approach to resolving issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and MS Project.
- Familiarity with accounting software, lease pricing tools (IDS), Visio, PeopleSoft, and SharePoint is advantageous.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; CPA designation preferred (considered with less than 10 years of experience).
- Experience in a Technical Accounting Division of a large or boutique firm or with FASB or SEC experience is a plus.
