Special Education Instructional Support Assistant - Resource - Part-Time

Compensation:

$16.31 per hour

Performance Incentives:

Available annually based on performance

Experience Benefits:

1% increase in base hourly rate for each year of relevant experience (up to five years)

Educational Benefits:

1% increase for an Associate's degree or higher if not a requirement for the position

Employment Classification:

A11, 9.25 months

Work Schedule:

Part-time (29 hours per week)

POSITION SUMMARY

The role involves assisting certified educators and specialists in monitoring and instructing students with special needs, ensuring the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs). The assistant will support students in their academic pursuits, daily living activities, and health care needs while alleviating teachers of routine clerical duties.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Willingness and capability to work with students requiring specialized instruction to achieve academic, social, and behavioral objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Competence in operating standard office equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow classroom protocols as established by the teacher.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in delivering classroom assignments and reinforcing educational objectives under the guidance of the teacher.
  • Support the creation of instructional materials and upkeep of the classroom environment.
  • Collect data on academic and behavioral progress as directed.
  • Implement positive behavior interventions for students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
  • Respond to behavioral issues in accordance with established intervention plans and district policies.
  • Assist non-ambulatory students with daily activities as needed.
  • Support students with personal hygiene and daily living skills.
  • Accompany students during transitions within the school.
  • Monitor small groups of students to ensure a safe and constructive learning atmosphere.
  • Maintain classroom equipment and materials to promote safety.
  • Exemplify professional and respectful behavior at all times.
  • Perform clerical tasks to assist the teacher in managing student records and classroom supplies.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Regular attendance is essential.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the educational environment.
  • Provide assistance to colleagues as necessary.
  • May require physical tasks such as lifting or moving light objects.
  • May involve prolonged periods of standing or outdoor exposure.
  • Physical demands may necessitate collaboration with other staff members.
