Job Title: Site Safety Specialist

McGough Construction is seeking a highly skilled Site Safety Specialist to join our team. As a respected partner in the construction industry, we take pride in our commitment to safety and excellence.

Job Summary:

The Site Safety Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and managing safety and health programs on federal construction projects. This includes ensuring compliance with federal regulations and standards, promoting a culture of safety, and conducting regular safety inspections and audits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety and health programs for federal projects.
  • Ensure all safety and health policies comply with federal regulations, including OSHA standards.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of construction sites to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for project personnel, including contractors and subcontractors.
  • Lead investigations of safety incidents and accidents, including near misses, to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Stay informed about changes in federal safety and health regulations and ensure project compliance.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, construction management, engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in safety and health management within the construction industry, with specific experience on federal projects preferred.
  • Completed, as a minimum, the 30-Hour OSHA Construction Industry safety class with current First Aid and CPR Training / AED.
  • 10 years of demonstratable SSHO experience on federal projects or a college graduate with 5 years of Construction Industry safety experience on federal projects in supervising or managing general or industry construction.
  • 24 hours of documented formal or on-line safety and health related coursework in the past year.
  • Demonstrate training in the following areas: personal protective equipment and clothing to include selection, use and maintenance; hazard communication; excavation; scaffolding; fall protection; confined space; health hazard recognition, evaluation and control of chemical, physical and biological agents.
  • Deep knowledge of federal safety and health regulations, including OSHA standards.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety practices and hazard management.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and tools.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite programs.
Physical Requirements:

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time while working at a computer terminal. Employee must be able to communicate effectively in a typical office environment with a standard level of office noise. Occasional standing, bending, walking and lifting is also required.

Employee will be required to visit construction jobsites, which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures. In addition, employee must be able to move around prospective or current project sites. This includes climbing ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, walking long distances, and climbing stairs.
