Position Overview:

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Vehicle Maintenance Specialist to address performance issues and conduct thorough inspections of mechanical and electronic systems. This role is crucial for the upkeep of the equipment and facilities dedicated to the repair and maintenance of vehicles within the Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in daily meetings with staff and inmates to discuss the status of vehicle repairs and maintenance.
  • Identify necessary components for repair completion, including parts and tools.
  • Evaluate and prioritize repair tasks while conducting vehicle inspections.
  • Communicate with the Equipment Shop Supervisor regarding required repair parts and supplies.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
  • Ensure precise data entry into the automated fleet management system.
  • Facilitate training for inmates using Automotive Society of Excellence (ASE) Study Guides.
  • Secure all tools and equipment at the end of each workday.
  • Drive for state-related business as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Inspection and diagnosis of power/drive train systems.
  • Repair methodologies for electrical systems.
  • Hydraulic system evaluations.
  • Gasoline and diesel engine principles and operations.
  • Scheduled preventive maintenance practices.

Skills in:

  • Utilizing diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting.
  • Employing specialized tools for servicing and repairing vehicles.
  • Preparing accurate repair estimates.
  • Conducting quality control inspections.

Ability to:

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues effectively.
  • Perform safety inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Communicate instructions clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Manage and prioritize repair schedules for a large fleet.

Preferred Qualifications:

Within the first year of employment, candidates are expected to obtain specific certifications, including DOT Brake Inspector and DOT Commercial Vehicle Inspector certifications. Additional certifications in Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) are also preferred.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Successful candidates must pass a background check, drug screening, and medical examination. A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) are required.
