Position Overview
We are currently in search of a Project Engineer to join our Water Resources Engineering Division. This role is based in our Columbia, Maryland office and will involve working closely with the project manager, taking the lead on design initiatives within the relevant discipline. The ideal candidate will exhibit the ability to work collaboratively within a team or independently on a variety of projects, ranging from small to large scale, across multiple disciplines for state, county, or local jurisdictions. This position requires strong analytical skills, innovative problem-solving abilities, and a creative mindset to effectively utilize design engineers in completing project tasks. The candidate should be reliable, open-minded, detail-oriented, and focused on maintaining project schedules, budgets, and design quality.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating design elements across various engineering disciplines, collaborating with other project engineers to develop comprehensive plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the lead designer for project development, including roadway drainage, stormwater management, environmental site design, and erosion control.
- Conducting hydrology and hydraulics analysis, including floodplain studies and bridge scour assessments.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable design procedures and maintaining a thorough understanding of the permit processes for various review agencies.
- Communicating design progress effectively with project managers and mentoring entry-level engineers.
- Utilizing hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software and techniques to support project objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- 5-7 years of relevant design experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration in the applicable jurisdiction or eligibility for reciprocity.
- Proficiency in CAD software, particularly Microstation, along with strong computer skills.
- Experience in stormwater management design, including BMPs and grading.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to foster teamwork and build relationships within a project team.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
