Position Overview

A postdoctoral opportunity is available within the Division of Cardiology at UW Medicine, focusing on the investigation of mitochondria-containing extracellular vesicles (MitoEV) and their involvement in sterile inflammation linked to heart failure and type 2 diabetes.

Role Responsibilities

This full-time position entails a 12-month appointment, where the selected candidate will engage in:

  • Cell-Based Research (50%):
    • Creating gene-deletion monocyte lines utilizing CRISPR technology.
    • Conducting volume-metric flow analysis to measure MitoEV release.
    • Performing confocal and electron microscopy to examine subcellular structures.
    • Executing biochemical assays for functional and anatomical evaluations of mitochondria and lysosomes.
    • Assessing mitophagy and autophagy through live-cell imaging and flow analysis.
  • Mouse Model Development (50%):
    • Generating and maintaining gene-knockout mouse lines.
    • Administering isolated MitoEV via venous injection.
    • Conducting small animal nuclear imaging to assess tissue targeting of MitoEV.
    • Analyzing tissue samples for inflammation.
    • Performing trans-thoracic echocardiograms to evaluate left ventricular function.
