Job Summary:This role involves working under general supervision to perform a variety of tasks, including installing, maintaining, modifying, repairing, inspecting, and calibrating electronic and mechanical equipment. The successful candidate will have a strong background in electronics and electro-mechanical maintenance, with experience in installation, maintenance, repair, and calibration of precision instruments and specialized machinery.
Key Responsibilities:- Installs, maintains, modifies, repairs, inspects, and calibrates electronic magnetic flow recorders, servo and integrator motors, servo panels, dampening and phase boards, range-assemblies, hydraulic recorders, flush tubes and systems, gas chlorinators, and liquid level gauges.
- Programs and repairs printed circuit boards, integrated circuitry, and microprocessors.
- Sets frequencies, pot assemblies, and control relays on electronic equipment.
- Changes signals from analog to digital and the reverse.
- Changes and weighs mercury for meters and manometers.
- Takes volt meter readings of flow meters.
- Participates in the drafting or interpretation of schematics, charts, blueprints, and specifications.
- Gathers data for velocity, capacity, and flume, wire, and pipe size and makes appropriate calculations regarding the same.
- Recommends changes in design and modifications as needed.
- Keeps accurate, detailed records, charts, and logs and provides information from them.
- May supervise and instruct Instrument Mechanics I's determining work methods and techniques for accomplishing assignments, and coordinate work with Utilities Mechanics and Electricians as required.
- May perform duties involving hazardous working conditions.
- May be required to participate in safety-related training, including confined space and trench working conditions, and the handling of hazardous materials.
- Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent.
- Four years' experience in installation, maintenance, repair, and calibration of precision instruments and specialized machinery used in water and sewage pumping systems, or closely related work.
- Additional related training may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience up to a maximum of two years.
- Additional experience may be substituted for the required education up to a maximum of four years.
Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions. All employees of this position are subject to call to duty in emergencies. Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening, and employment investigation, including, but not limited to, criminal background, education certification, and fingerprinting checks.
