Position Summary

The role involves spearheading the strategy, design, and execution of training programs for Transmission and Distribution (T&D) apprentices and journeymen. This includes ensuring compliance with apprenticeship program standards and achieving organizational goals for designated areas. The successful candidate will oversee the establishment and upkeep of a centralized training facility, collaborating across various departments for program development and execution, which encompasses long-term planning and budgeting. Additionally, the role requires conducting training assessments and gap analyses to identify individual training needs, managing resources effectively, and implementing company policies related to apprenticeship and journeyman programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and coordinate comprehensive training programs for apprentices and tradespeople utilizing diverse instructional methods such as classroom sessions, online learning, demonstrations, and hands-on training.
  • Evaluate and propose new training initiatives and enhancements to existing protocols to drive improved business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental experts to ensure training development aligns with regulatory standards and company policies.
  • Oversee the creation of training materials, including manuals, digital training content, and multimedia resources tailored to specific training areas.
  • Manage documentation related to job tasks, conduct surveys, and perform training assessments to establish individualized training requirements.
  • Lead team projects, providing direction and support to team members while effectively communicating project goals and progress.
  • Ensure compliance with both internal and external training standards across the T&D Operations organization.
  • Develop and implement processes to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Oversee complex projects involving cross-functional teams, including both represented and non-represented personnel.
  • Review policies and procedures to ensure training programs meet safety and operational standards.
  • Establish and assess operational metrics to evaluate training program effectiveness, making adjustments as necessary to address performance gaps.
  • Guide the functional team in daily operations and contribute to employee performance evaluations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • At least ten years of experience in training, program management, or project management within the utility power delivery sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of operational practices for utility transmission and distribution systems, particularly in dispatching and outage management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of addressing critical and sensitive customer issues.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Experience in developing training programs for electric utility operations.
  • Project management expertise, including the ability to create and adhere to training schedules and commitments.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills for preparing training materials and conducting sessions.
  • Capacity to rapidly acquire knowledge on various training topics.
  • Familiarity with company policies, practices, and NESC requirements.
  • Leadership and teamwork abilities to foster collaborative relationships across departments.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.

  • Prior training experience in the electric utility sector, engaging with all organizational levels.
  • Understanding of PacifiCorp's operations, products, services, and relevant regulations.
