Clinical Denials and Appeals Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Clinical Denials and Appeals Specialist at Boston Medical Center assesses, plans, coordinates, and evaluates initial and ongoing denials. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of clinical documentation and medical coding, as well as a working knowledge of patient financial billing regulations and requirements. The Specialist researches and responds to denials in a timely fashion, communicating with multiple members of the clinical team in clear and concise language.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate initial and ongoing denials
- Research and respond to denials in a timely fashion
- Communicate with multiple members of the clinical team
- Identify trends and recommend changes in practice and documentation
- Collect and trend data for return on investment
Requirements:
- Associate's degree in Nursing required, Bachelor's degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Utilization Management, Denials and Appeals, and patient insurance/billing
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical documentation and medical coding
- Working knowledge of patient financial billing regulations and requirements
