Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Surgical Services Registered Nurse is responsible for providing scrub and circulator nurse services within the operating room during surgical interventions. As a vital member of the surgical team, this role involves assisting as necessary in accordance with established protocols.

ATC Chicago is actively seeking Registered Nurses for 13-week contracts in surgical settings. Candidates should possess experience in Orthopedics, Orthopedic Trauma, Vascular, Urology, and General Surgery. Experience in Neurosurgery (cranial and spinal), Open Heart/Thoracic, Ophthalmology, ENT, Bariatric, and Gynecology is preferred but not mandatory.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be a graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate School of Nursing.

LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of practice is essential.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in the operating room is required.

CREDENTIALS

Current CPR certification at least to the BLS level, along with other health screenings as mandated by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies. Covid-19 and current Flu vaccinations are required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Various healthcare facility environments with potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other infectious materials.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to ATC policies and procedures.
  • Follow client facility nursing policies and procedures.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, prioritizing data collection based on individual needs.
  • Perform ongoing nursing assessments as dictated by patient conditions and facility protocols.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Provide care in a manner that respects cultural diversity and preserves patient dignity.
  • Advocate for patient rights regarding advance directives and organ donation.
  • Assist the surgical team during procedures as required.
  • Prepare the operating room with necessary instruments and supplies.
  • As a scrub nurse, manage instruments and supplies during procedures, ensuring accurate counts.
  • As a circulator, manage supply delivery to the sterile field and maintain patient documentation.
  • Ensure adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Report patient conditions to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Engage in continuing education to maintain competency and meet state requirements.
  • Comply with ethical conduct and professional nursing standards.
  • Demonstrate effective delegation skills.
