Overview

Joby Aviation is in search of a dedicated Process Improvement Specialist to become a vital part of our Powertrain & Electronics Manufacturing Engineering team. This role focuses on recognizing and executing strategies to enhance safety, quality, throughput, and efficiency within our production lines. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in driving improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment, coupled with a strong enthusiasm for mentoring and engaging with team members on the production floor.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the adoption of lean manufacturing methodologies, including training for affected team members
  • Spearhead improvement initiatives across the manufacturing lines to elevate safety, quality, throughput, and efficiency
  • Implement lean practices throughout production planning, material flow, assembly processes, and quality control
  • Develop Material and Information Flow Charts (Value Stream Maps) to pinpoint waste and identify enhancement opportunities
  • Assist in the development and execution of Floor Management Development Systems (FMDS) in collaboration with shop floor leadership
  • Conduct in-person training sessions utilizing established curricula
  • Perform operational efficiency assessments of current manufacturing areas and organize kaizen events based on empirical data
  • Champion the implementation of 5S methodologies in collaboration with local leadership and executive support
  • Showcase the benefits of single-piece flow and just-in-time practices through workshops and real-world applications
  • Quantitatively illustrate how lean principles contribute to reduced lead times, enhanced efficiency, improved quality, and increased productivity
  • Collaborate with department heads and team leaders to coordinate training schedules and address specific team requirements
  • Work closely with the Learning & Development team to remain informed about updates to training materials
  • Stay current on training techniques, presentation skills, and the evolving products/services of the company
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of Toyota production system principles through collaboration with our partners at Toyota
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to refine training delivery skills
Required
  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years of relevant experience in Continuous Improvement
  • Knowledge and experience with Toyota Production System (TPS) or lean production systems
  • Experience in technical training, preferably in aerospace maintenance or manufacturing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant training software
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to various company locations
