Fire Equipment Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Equipment Technician to join our team at Johnston Community College. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing fire equipment, as well as constructing and maintaining fire training props.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on fire equipment to ensure safe and proper working condition.
- Establish and maintain records on the use, care, and maintenance of fire equipment in accordance with national standards and industry best practices.
- Construct and maintain fire training props under the supervision of the Director of Fire Programs.
- Perform inventory and inspection of all equipment used for fire and rescue training.
- Maintain and repair equipment as needed, and make recommendations regarding equipment servicing and new equipment needs.
- Assist with the design and maintenance of training props as needed.
- Interpret and apply NFPA standards and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a safe working and learning environment, and report all deficiencies to the Director of Fire Programs.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Experience in Fire Safety.
- North Carolina Firefighter, Technical Rescuer, Emergency Vehicle Driver, Fire Instructor I certifications.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
