About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the State of Michigan's Natural Resources Department as a Maintenance Mechanic 7-E9. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities and equipment, including preventative and corrective maintenance, setup and teardown of equipment, and construction and fabrication projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, repairs, and replacements of equipment and systems
  • Assist in the setup and teardown of equipment for fish stocking, spawning, marking, and grounds maintenance
  • Conduct construction, fabrication, and special projects as assigned
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including pumps, compressors, and welding equipment
  • Work independently and as part of a team to achieve departmental goals and objectives
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • At least two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the mechanical or electrical trades, or completion of a recognized program in vocational training for the mechanical or electrical trades
  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Tanker endorsement and without an air brake restriction
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
