Job Overview:

The Nursing Supervisor is accountable for overseeing hospital operations and facilitating collaboration among patient care units and other departments to ensure the delivery of safe and effective patient care during a designated shift.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads, mentors, and coordinates the efforts of staff involved in delivering exceptional patient-centered care.
  • Oversees daily staffing and productivity within the assigned area, ensuring appropriate staff assignments and schedules while sourcing additional resources as necessary.
  • Acts as a clinical and leadership resource for the unit, assisting staff in addressing patient and departmental concerns and escalating issues when appropriate.
  • Engages in performance improvement initiatives, new projects, and other departmental functions, including participating in the recruitment and selection of personnel.
  • Identifies and implements strategies to enhance financial performance, patient care outcomes, and staff engagement.
  • May perform nursing duties as required.
  • Exemplifies outstanding service orientation towards patients, colleagues, and healthcare providers.
Training and Development:

  • Ensures staff training aligns with organizational policies, procedures, and expectations, incorporating relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Contributes to managing employee performance through motivation, coaching, and addressing immediate performance issues, including recommending disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Evaluates and suggests updates to nursing policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Collaboration:

  • Partners with physician leaders to foster a culture committed to patient-focused service, support for medical practices, innovation, compliance, and ethical standards.
  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization while adhering to service behavior standards.
  • May be required to assist in other departments based on operational needs.
  • May be placed on-call during scheduled shifts.
Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required. Nurses with an Associate's or Diploma must complete a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Nursing within four years of hire.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice is required.
  • Minimum of three years of nursing experience is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Certification relevant to the unit or service is preferred.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs. Frequent communication with patients and care providers is essential, requiring clear verbal communication and active listening, especially in emergencies. Manual dexterity is necessary for operating delicate equipment. Regular computer use for documentation and information access is expected. The role may involve lifting and transferring patients, as well as navigating busy environments.


Work Schedule:

This position requires regular attendance during scheduled business hours or shifts, including the possibility of night and weekend work.
