Personal Care Assistant

The Personal Care Assistant plays a vital role in delivering compassionate care and support to clients in their homes. This position operates under the guidance and supervision of the Director or Assistant Director of Patient Services and/or the RN Team Leader.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a state-approved aide training program, including relevant hospital experience, with certification.
- Familiarity with home health care practices and prior experience in home health visits is preferred.
- Ability to read and write effectively in accordance with job responsibilities.
- Completion of PCA training covering:
- Methods to assist clients in achieving maximum independence.
- Nutrition principles and meal preparation.
- Understanding the aging process.
- Awareness of emotional challenges related to illness and long-term care.
- Maintaining a clean and healthy living environment.
- Reporting any changes in client condition to nursing staff.
- Upholding confidentiality and ethical standards in client care.
- Collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Accurate record-keeping as required.
- Basic knowledge of personal care, housekeeping, and meal preparation.
- Demonstrated interest and empathy towards clients.
- Commitment to personal hygiene and professional appearance.
- Freedom from health issues that could affect clients or coworkers.
- Relevant work experience.
- Emotional and mental maturity to foster positive relationships with clients and their families.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
- Auto insurance compliant with agency requirements.
- Safe driving history.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist clients in maintaining personal hygiene.
- Ensure a safe and healthy living environment.
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals, including shopping and running errands as directed.
- Support clients with mobility and ambulation.
- Assist with specific treatments as prescribed by healthcare professionals.
- Support rehabilitation efforts as needed.
- Encourage client independence in accordance with care plans.
- Engage clients in activities to promote mental alertness.
- Provide emotional and psychological support to clients and their families.
- Build trust and confidentiality with clients and their households.
- Document visit details and integrate them into weekly clinical records.
- Report any changes in client condition or home environment to supervisors.
- Execute assigned tasks as directed and communicate any challenges.
- Collaborate with other agencies involved in client care as instructed.
- Perform routine housekeeping duties to ensure a comfortable environment.
- Adhere to universal precautions during client care.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding business practices and personnel matters.
- Perform only the tasks specified for each individual client.
- Respond to the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of clients.
- Follow emergency protocols in case of incidents or significant changes in client condition.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions about patient care.
- Understand and comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
- Provide feedback on team members' performance when requested.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as assigned.
- Engage in special projects and overtime work as needed.
- Maintain a professional demeanor while collaborating with staff.
- Notify supervisors in advance of any absences or tardiness.
- Avoid allowing personal matters to interfere with work responsibilities.
- Consistently present a professional appearance.
