Position Overview

The Mental Health Nurse Unit Manager is a dedicated professional who demonstrates clinical expertise, a commitment to continuous learning, and a focus on nurturing patient relationships. This role is responsible for overseeing the nursing staff's activities and directing departmental operations.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate the nursing team's activities to ensure high-quality patient care. Manage staffing levels effectively to meet patient care standards. Engage in the hiring process, including selection and onboarding of new staff. Facilitate professional development through mentoring and educational opportunities. Evaluate staff performance and implement corrective action plans as necessary. Maintain open communication with administrative leaders, physicians, and other healthcare personnel to optimize patient care practices. Ensure alignment of departmental goals with the organization's mission, vision, and strategic objectives.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution. Current Registered Nurse License in Indiana. Minimum of two years of nursing experience in a hospital setting, including at least one year in an intensive or critical care environment. CPR certification, with additional advanced life support certifications as required by unit specialty.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Proven management experience with skills in planning, organizing, and supervising nursing staff.

Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Ability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Proficient in problem-solving and multitasking in a dynamic environment. Competence in using technology, including Microsoft Office and relevant healthcare applications. Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and maintaining confidentiality.

Work Environment

Clinical hospital setting with frequent movement and potential for high-stress situations. Exposure to various health risks, including bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials. Flexibility to work beyond standard hours as needed.
