Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Design Engineer to join our corporate Design Engineering team at W. R. Grace & Co. This is a key role that will involve direct responsibility for the Process Engineering function as it relates to capital projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process Design and Engineering: Develops in collaboration with Process Technology, Business Units and Operations and assures adherence to a standard Basis of Design (BOD) package which includes Scope of Work, PFDs, P&IDs, and material balances.
  • Project Studies and Evaluations: Develops project studies to evaluate alternatives (technically and economically) and recommends the best solution.
  • Front End Packages and Documentation: Develops front end packages and ensures that all necessary documentation is completed.
  • Procurement and Vendor Management: Developing equipment, services bid documentation, reviewing vendor quotations and issues procurement recommendations.
  • Design Change Management: Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • EH&S Design Requirements: Evaluating EH&S design requirements and ensuring adherence to corporate policies.
  • PHA's and HAZOP's: Participates as engineering representative in PHA's (Process Hazard Analysis) and HAZOP's.
  • Project Meetings and Support: Leading/participating in various project and kickoff meetings throughout project life cycle.
  • Start Up Activities: Supports start up activities from a process engineering perspective.
Physical Requirements and Environment
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator.
  • Work Environment: Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: B.S. degree in an Engineering discipline with Chemical Engineering highly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years experience in process design and process engineering working in the chemical industry.
  • Process Technology and Operations: Thorough understanding of Grace's process technology/unit ops and operations experience are an advantage.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Must have proven ability to execute front end design for capital projects with strong oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Process Design Experience: Prior experience process designing for mid to large scale capital projects.
