Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled District Safety Officer to join our team at the State of South Carolina. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular safety audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with federal, state, and departmental policies.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment to ensure they meet safety standards and regulations.
  • Develop and implement training programs to educate employees on safety procedures and protocols.
  • Monitor and report employee accidents and injuries, and make recommendations to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Coordinate and monitor safety training programs with county trainers.
  • Conduct safety meetings and provide materials for discussion.
  • Oversee counties during random controlled substance and alcohol testing procedures.
  • Perform special projects as requested by the District Engineering Administrator.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma and four (4) years of experience in occupational safety or industrial hygiene programs.
  • A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering, or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
Working Conditions

The physical demands of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required. This position requires walking for extended periods, traversing rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. The position may require working in an office environment, warehouse environment, or outside in all weather conditions.
