Role Overview
The Packaging Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for executing proactive preventative and predictive maintenance, repairs, and enhancements on packaging machinery within an automated food processing environment, prioritizing employee safety, product quality, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and protocols (including LOTO, fall protection, and hot work).
- Possess knowledge and experience with Daumar/Giro packaging machines and similar equipment.
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections to monitor uptime and downtime on weighers, baggers, and conveyors.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to mechanical, electrical (120v, 220v single and three-phase, 480v), pneumatic, and hydraulic systems within the packaging facility.
- Identify and implement enhancements to equipment, documentation, workflows, and processes.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across various departments through direct communication methods.
- Provide training and mentorship to operators and fellow maintenance staff.
- Research specifications for systems and components using manuals, schematics, and vendor communications.
- Dismantle and reassemble complex machinery with precision and reliability.
- Operate cutting, welding, and fabrication equipment as necessary.
- Create and modify work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System, documenting all work performed.
- Research parts, obtain quotes, and generate requests as needed.
- Escalate technical and procedural issues to supervisors when necessary.
- Maintain a high standard of moral integrity in all actions.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Skills and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required; Technical degree and three or more years of relevant experience in a production or manufacturing setting preferred.
- Proficient English communication skills are essential; bilingual candidates are preferred.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address a variety of concrete variables in non-standardized situations.
- Capability to interpret various instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled formats.
- Ability to read, analyze, and present general business information to diverse groups.
- Must be able to frequently lift items weighing up to 25 pounds as required.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and rotating shifts, and be available for emergency call-outs as needed.
Compensation:
The approved compensation range for this position is between $33 - $42 per hour.
