Job Summary

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College is seeking a qualified Adjunct Faculty Member to teach in our Interpreter Training Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, assessing student learning, and contributing to the development of our curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach American Sign Language classes, skill-based classes, and lecture-based classes related to the Deaf Community, Deaf Culture, and Interpreting.
  • Develop and implement course materials, lessons, and assessments that align with program learning outcomes.
  • Provide clear course expectations, evaluations, and timelines to students through written topical outlines and standardized syllabi.
  • Design and administer examinations to assess student achievement of course objectives.
  • Grade student work, maintain accurate records, and submit final grades and other required materials in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with academic area chairs, department heads, and other College personnel to ensure curriculum alignment and effective instructional strategies.
  • Respond to student and faculty inquiries in a timely and thorough manner.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or native ASL signer with earned college credit.
  • Experience teaching ASL and/or Interpreting in an education/community/agency setting.
  • Experience in the use of educational technology and/or distance learning.
  • Experience in implementing curriculum in the fulfillment of courses.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful collaboration with school systems, community agencies, and other organizations.
  • Demonstrated evidence of professional involvement in the field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to act effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to interact successfully with academic as well as business and regulatory personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned master's or doctorate in interpreter education or related field.
  • National interpreter certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership and membership in national professional organizations such as RID, NAD, ASLTA, NAD, and CIT.
  • Previous teaching experience in an academic environment.
  • 5 years' industry or business applied experience in the teaching subject area.
  • Experience with online teaching and/or instruction in higher education.
  • Experience working with students from diverse academic backgrounds and life experiences.
