We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Prisma Health. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory testing, which is essential for diagnosing and treating diseases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Laboratory Testing
    • Perform and report test results for waived, moderate, and high complexity clinical laboratory procedures as assigned and as outlined in the standard operating procedure (SOP) manuals.
    • Escalate discrepancies to appropriate individual.
    • Operate computerized laboratory data systems/applications as assigned.
  • Ensure Quality and Safety
    • Use the correct policies and procedures in the collection, labeling, handling, and processing of all specimens.
    • Verify identification of the patient, specimen, and results.
    • Evaluate specimen integrity based on department standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in Quality Control and Quality Management
    • Evaluate QC results for acceptability and notify the appropriate individual of unresolved issues.
    • Perform lookback if required.
    • Monitor supply/reagent inventory and use laboratory resources efficiently.
  • Operate Laboratory Instrumentation
    • Effectively operate laboratory instrumentation.
    • Identify real and potential situations or detects equipment malfunctions.
    • Investigate and resolve technical problems, consult the appropriate individual as needed.
  • Comply with Policies and Procedures
    • Comply with Policies and Procedures of Prisma Health.
    • Understand and comply with standards and conditions set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies in assigned operational area.
    • Perform competency assessments as assigned.
  • Communicate Effectively
    • Communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in writing.
    • Maintain open communication with laboratory leaders, pathologists, and fellow team members.
    • Communicate pertinent information including critical values to other members of the healthcare team and perform required documentation.
  • Promote Professional Growth and Development
    • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and non-mandatory continuing education.
    • Access training needs and participate in Continuing Education (CE) programs annually.

Requirements

  • Education
    • Associate's Degree in a laboratory science or medical technology.
  • Required Certifications, Registries, Licenses
    • Past eligibility for MLT (ASCP) prior to 2004 or current eligibility for MLT (ASCP)cm or MLT (AMT).
